Warning: 'Your Claims Expert' falsely claiming to be a law firm

9 January 2025

Correspondence has been sent purporting to be from 'Your Claims Expert' falsely claiming to be authorised and regulated by the SRA.

What is the scam?

Correspondence has been sent from 'Your Claims Expert' which falsely claims to be authorised and regulated by the SRA.

The email seen by the SRA was in relation to a 'Data Subject Access Request' and was sent from the email address 'claims@yourclaimsexpert.co.uk'. The email footer claims that 'Your Claims Expert' is a trading style of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) and also gives the SRA Number for a genuine firm of solicitors (see below).

The SRA has also seen a document titled 'Form of Authority' which falsely states that 'Your Claims Expert is Authorised & regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA Number 100845)'.

A website is also operating at 'www.yourclaimsexpert.co.uk'.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate a genuine firm of solicitors called 'Your Claims Expert'.

Any business or transactions through 'Your Claims Expert', 'www.yourclaimsexpert.co.uk' or the email address 'claims@yourclaimsexpert.co.uk', is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of Solicitors called Morgan Wray Limited, trading as Sebastian Rowe Solicitors and Morgan Wray Solicitors. Its genuine SRA number is 662016.

The genuine firm of Morgan Wray Limited has confirmed that it does not have any connection to the scam referred to in the above alert.

The SRA also authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor whose SRA number is 100845 who has confirmed he has no connection to 'Your Claims Expert' or the documentation referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
