Warning: Letter misusing the name of Myerson Limited

A letter has been sent in relation to a visa application misusing the name of Myerson Limited.

What is the scam?

A letter has been sent misusing the name of a genuine firm of solicitors (see below) in respect of a visa application.

The letter seen by the SRA states that a visa extension application has been submitted. The letter misuses the genuine logo, address and contact details for the genuine firm (see below). The letter also misuses a telephone number and email address for the genuine firm.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Myerson Limited. Its address is Grosvenor House, 20 Barrington Road, Altrincham, Cheshire, WA14 1HB. Its telephone number is 01619414000 and the email domain used by the firm is '@myerson.co.uk'. Myerson Limited have confirmed that the following telephone number 0161 675 2723 and email address lawyers@myerson.co.uk are genuine contact details which are associated with their firm.

The genuine firm has confirmed that it does not have any connection with the letter referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
