Warning: Trademark emails misusing the name 'Apps Legal Ltd'

5 February 2026

Emails regarding purported trademark applications have been sent to companies, misusing the name Apps Legal Ltd.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen emails that have been sent misusing the names and SRA ID numbers of genuine solicitors and the name and address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).

The emails inform the recipients about companies initiating trademark filings with the UK Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) to register their company names. The emails invite the recipients to secure trademark registration of the company names and offers to assist with this process. The recipients are encouraged to respond within 48 hours.

Emails seen by the SRA purport to be from a ‘Registered IP Solicitor' and were sent from the email addresses 'patricia@notice.appslegal.co' and ‘olivia@notice.appslegal.co'. They include the telephone number +44 122553512 and website https://appslegal.co/.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses, telephone number or website is not undertaken by a firm or solicitor authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
