Visa applications misusing the name, SRA number and details of Axis Solicitors Limited and the name of Faret Bibi.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen visa applications misusing the name, SRA number and details of a genuine firm of solicitors and the name of a genuine solicitor (see below). The visa applications list the genuine solicitor (see below) as an 'immigration advisor', providing the contact email addresses of 'faretbibisaxis@yahoo.com' and 'soniatar@yahoo.com' and the contact telephone number of '07417423884'.

One of the applications misuses the genuine firm's London branch office address and telephone number (see details below) and incorrectly purports that 'Faret Bibi' is not regulated.

Any business or transaction through the above email addresses and telephone number is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Axis Solicitors Limited (SRA ID 653526). The genuine address of the firm's head office is 109 Cheetham Hill Road, Manchester, M8 8PY and the telephone number is 01615040084. The genuine email domain of the firm is @axis.lawyer.

The genuine address of the London branch office is 60A High Road, Ilford, IG1 1DL, England. Its telephone numbers are 02075506166 and 02038703831.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Faret Bibi who is a Director at the genuine firm Axis Solicitors Limited. The SRA number for the genuine solicitor is 500639.

The genuine firm have confirmed that the genuine solicitor, and the firm do not have any connection to the correspondence, email addresses and telephone number referred to in the above alert.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
